Title Broadway and Third Street, looking east on Third Street from Olive Street, Los Angeles, 1894
Description Photograph of a panoramic view of downtown Los Angeles, looking east from Olive Street and Third Street toward the intersection of Broadway and Third Street, 1894. The photograph appears to be taken from the rear deck of the Crocker Mansion located at Olive and 3rd Streets (partially visible in foreground surrounded by large trees). The streets are busy with horse-drawn vehicles and pedestrians. A pile of construction supplies and debris is visible near the intersection. City Hall is at left. The Bradbury Building is at right. Legible signs include: "A.H. Neidig, real estate", "254, Strassung & Payne, real estate", "Painting, Kal-swiming"[?], "Los Angeles Sewer Pipe Association", "Woodbury Business College", "Furnished", "Admir cigar", ..."typewriting"..., "Saddlerock Oyster Lunch House", "OK [...] lists[?], beer[?]", "Z.L. Parmalee crockery and glassware", ..."randall & Co."..., "189[...], Stimson", ..."Williams Pharmacy"..., "Standard Shoe Store", "Broadway Bank", "Bradbury". Some other buildings in the photo are: the First Congregational Church, at left (built in 1883); Stimson Block (1893-1963) at north-east corner of Spring and 3rd Streets; Ramona Block (1886-1912) at south-west corner of Spring and 3rd Streets (its south end and turret are visible to the right of the Bradbury Building); the Saint Vibiana Cathedral can be seen in the close background at left, behind the City Hall.
