Description

Photograph of an exterior view of the Los Angeles Knitting Company factory on a rainy day, [s.d.]. A one-story brick building with a flat roof can be seen at center. Awnings can be seen above some of the windows, while foliage, a sidewalk, and street can be seen to the right of the building. Puddles can be seen on the road near the street corner to the left of center. Three couples can be seen in front of the building. Utility poles can be seen, as well as a water tower that reads, "L.A. [Kni]tting [...] co. [...]".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
