Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Evertsen Adobe in San Gabriel, shown from the rear lot, July 22, 1960. The one-story adobe is shaped like the shell of a tortise, forming a squat dome above the walls of the home. Four windows can be seen on the viewer-facing wall, the remnants of cloth awnings hanging in scraps from above them. A bushy tree and a tall palm can be seen to the left. The foreground is filled with weed-covered soil.; The adobe was built in 1850 by John R. Evertsen who was charged with taking the first U.S. Census of the City and County of Los Angeles. Photo was taken before the home was to be destroyed for subdivision.
