COLLEGE AND THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION al Sa Oink.
Turke -
In 1900 Hovhannes Eskijian entered the Central(College/ i
entered the preparatory class of the college, and then took full
college education, lie graduated in 1905.
One of his schoolmates was MM Aijian, later the pastor of
Armenian Cilicia Congregational Church in Pasadena, California.
In his letter to Luther Eskijian, the son of Rev. Eskijaian
Rev. Aijian has some memoirs about his friend Hovhannes Eskijian.
“Looking back across the years and reviving his memory, words
are inadequate in expressing the picture he presented in Central
Turkey College, at Aintab. I am exceedingly hesitant in using big
words, for often at a time like this in speaking of departed souls,
they are used lavishly and thoughtlessly, But in this case words
will fall very short of describing the young college man as I knew
him. He was a walking, living illustration of Christianity. During
his early days in College he had found Jesus Christ as his personal
Saviour, and the rest of his college life was simply an expression
of that inner newly found life. Modest, humble, ready to help and
serve, he quietly went about doing good. He had learnt the secret
of prayer, which was reflected in his diligence and studious qua-
lities. He spent much time alone in"Sumak" grove, and his radiant ta
face, smiling kind eyes revealed the story that he was spending
time with the Mastexfin His "School of Prayer",
"As a young Christian I often sought his association. I had
many questions to ask regarding the technique of Christian living,
and no one can lead a young Christian unless he has been over the
road himself. ixamaanfite I had confidence in hinfand in his
sincerity.
Nseveral years later, after our graduation, I had the pleasure
of entertaining him as our house guest at Hadjin, He was the same
gracious gentleman, grown a little bit more mature, His picture
occupies a prominent place in my albun of memory. For losing a
friend so dear, I mourn, but for knowing Hovhannes Eskijian I
rejoice and thank God.
