REV. H. ESKIJIAN AS A PASTOR/ IN Exr-oLue/ osu AND AIEPPOG pba.
Rev. Eskijian began his pastoral work in Ekiz-Oluk & keuriane
as a visiting pastor in the year 1908, After his graduation he was
invited to that district as a visitor only for three months.
He was the guest of Mrs, Aghvor Apelian in Keurime during
those months, During this short period le was liked by the people,
young and old, especially was appreciated by his hostess. He was
known in the area as "a man who LIVED Christianity.
Later on in 1910 he was invited by the churches of these vil-
lages as their pemanent pastor. Eskijian accepted the invitation,
Ekia-Cluke and Keurlune were two small villages in the Wess
of Kessab, in the neighborhood of Antioch and Latakia, several hours
walk from the Mediterranean sea, The two villages were very near
each other, around half an hour walk from each other. Each village
had its own small church and primary school. One pastor shepherded
both villages.
He began his pastoral work with fervour, with adults and
young people. He organized the Sunday Schools, primary schools,
prayer meetings and church work, He visited the sick and took
care of all aspects of the church,
HIS MARRIAGE IN 1911
Rev. Eskijian went to Aintab to yioommxiet attend the Union
meetings of Cilicia, and to get married in the mean time.
He chose Miss Gulenia Banielian as his future wife.
She uaz had just graduated from the College for Girls.\n Marah
Mrs. Feride Daghlian was also in Aintab during that period,
She gives some details about Eskijians's stay in Aintab during
the arrangements for the wedding. Mrs. Daghlian was with the Eski-
jians, invited by the wife of Hovhanness!' brother to help in the
wedding preparations, Hovhannes, the bridegroom to be, always mur-
mured the following hymn,
