Content Mother's letter to:

Aleppo, April 20, 1916
Dear sister Nouritza Hanum Elmekjian

This very day I received your letter of April, 5 & 6,180
that of Yacoub's April 9, as well as Victoria's letter. Thank you
very mich for your love’and concern for us. We were very much wor
ried and were praying for your dear loss the Rev. Setrak. Being

very fond friends, we knew your grief was deeper than ours, But,

dear sister let me tell you that I too, had thé’ sward pass through
my heart as it passed yours in the past. So, you see we both are

in the same staye and destiny. No one can reap wholesome fruits from
this vain, false and temporary world. My dear husband had but one
defect, it was his vain and earthen body. We all are built in the
same material: the earth. So the rest of our dear ones, were the ever-
lasting Soul, went up to the Heaven and are waiting for us cordially,

Up till now I couldn't write to you about his sickness.
Please don't blaim me, I did not have time to spare. It was his
first day feeling rather feverish on Sunday March the 12th when I
wrote to you the last time, so thinking that it was going to pass
soon,I did not want to make you worry, that is why I did n't mention.

A weak earlier he carried on his pridominated sickness
on foot. He wouldN't like to lie in bed inspite of hisbeing very
weak, He had contimuos head ach, which became worse day by day. At
last, on Saterday evening March 11, he ate very little and went to
bed early. On Sunday morning, as usual he got up two hours before
the sunrise to preépare his usual message. I too,got up early and
seeing that he was very weak and fevéish, I blaimed him sincerely
for not looking after his health. and, without paying any attention
to hik insistings I removed all the books and papers and turning to
him I said with a loving heart: "Badvely, in the past week you were
not feeling well and were very weak plus} you did not close your
eyes last night, how can you go to church and give your cermon to
the congregation! Don't you realize what you are doing? You are kil-
ling yourself. Please have pity on yourself and your familly aswell,
So considering the reality,he got up, washed his face and seeing
that he couldn't stand much on his feet, he told me to respread his
bed, Next thing I did,was taking his temperature. Vaoo,it wasl03' F. }
" T’have Typhus Fever he said. You know a weak earlier, a louse
(bit) had bitten him and I found the "bit"y louse, Prier to that,
he had already mentioned to me twice, thgt he was going to have the
1.F. More, before that I had found lice on his clothes and when he
saw each time he said the same thing."I am contaminated-". I can't

escape the disease ", But each time I used to say, "No, my dear,
don't be affraid, God kmows that you are working in His field day
and night", Meanwhéle the cours of the disease had somewhat sub-
sided, so,we did not take 1t seriously. However the cruel virus
did not, our neck and sent its millions claws into Badvely's system,
