that will be required of
them. Such a man was Rev,
Hovhannes Eskijian and his
dear wife Gulenia
Eskijian,
In Inte 1913 Rev. Eskaijian
accepted the call to be minister
of the Emmanuel Armenian
Church of Aleppo, Syria,
Jeaying behind his beloved work
‘av inlnister to three Kessab area
villages. This war God's
providence, for in 1915 when the
Turkish | maacres and
deportations began, counters of
our dear Armenian people
hecame wartorn refugees,
driven from thelr homer to
certain death in the Syrian
desert near Der Zor. OF there,
thousands paned through
Aleppo, and Rev. Eskijian wax

hope and life to these forraken

of death. — He intercepted
hundreds of the destitute, the
sick und dying men, women und
children of the Armenian

‘The Lord showed Rev. Eskijian
te establish of an orphanage for
children, including, when
Ponstble, their mothers. Most of,
there were sick and dying of
diseases, including typhus. The
poor souls had spent all thelr
resources, having been driven
from their homes, and walked in
the cold and heat, without food
and water for weeks on end.
Rev. Exkijian collected the
young ones from the streets of
‘Aleppo, and the deportation
Miafvis, and brought them to
the orphanage, where he tried to
relocate them to safety. Many
wor saved.
