light baby meals. This was the start of an orphanage in Aleppo
which was another heavy burden for Rev. Eskijian to carry in
addition to many other responsibilities he was shouldering.
There came a time when a strict order was issued by the
government to find and arrest such people who had escaped further
deportation by hiding themselves in the city. The search was
intensified. The secret police were informed about the place
where I was hiding. Minutes before being arrested, I hastily
picked up my Bible and made a quick dash to Rev. Eskijian's home.
He wanted me to stay for a while with him, but being sure I could
no longer be safe in Aleppo, I grabbed one set of his underwear
and left the city not knowing where I was going. I cannot forget
his farwell prayer - how with tearful eyes he committed me to God's
care. That prayer has followed me to this day and as the result
of the positive answer of that prayer, I live and am able to give
this word of testimony about him to the glory of God. Those few
minutes of prayer fellowship was:the last time I saw him. Several
months later, word came to me that he was a victim of typhus which
took many lives in those days.
Rev. Eskijian set the unique example of a life of self denial.
If the many hundreds of refugees with whom he shared his morsel of
bread, for whose comfort he sacrificed his own, and for whose safety
he endangered his life were living today, they would stand to give
their testimony, saying "He died for us." Many other refugees who
received spiritual food for their souls, and who were comforted by
his ministry to them of the word of God, if living today, would
testify of his leading them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ
