Content every other week to a new place before the police had time to
find out where I was. Indeed, I was being a continuous mental

worry and financial drain upon him; but he did not mind this since
he thought he was fully rewarded by the satisfaction he received
from the fact that he was saving a young man's life froma vain

and sure death.

While in their hdme, Rev. and Mrs. Eskijian did for me all
that one’s own parents would do. In addition to all of the home
duties and care of her two little children, Emmanuel and Luther,
Mrs. Eskijian left none of my needs unattended. 1 cannot forget
the sacrificial service I received from her. She also served
with unexcelled devotion to the daily increasing number of Armen-
ian refugees who came to her for needed help. I cannot fully
describe the pitiful condition of the refugees who used to come
all day, from early morning to late evening for urgent help which
overtaxed Mrs. Eskijian beyond the limit of her physical endurance.
Rev. Eskijian could not stay in his study even for a short period,
but all day he used to run here and there trying to find shelter,
clothing and a supply of food for these refugees.

What I witnessed during the period of three months I stayed
in Rev. Eskijian's home is too heart breaking to describe. He had to
do somethdng with children who had lost their parents. He had to
listen to the pathetic stories of women ~ how their husbands were
tortured and murdered before their eyes, how they were forced by
Turkish gendarmes to walk many miles day after day, barefooted,

without sufficient food and clothing, and without being allowed to

drink water when water was available; how so many young girls among
