Abstract The article tells the story of a special kind of trade called daigou. Amidst the massive volumes of trade between China and the United States, this kind of activity mostly goes unnoticed. It first began with Chinese students studying in the United States who would purchase luxury goods for their friends and family in China. Now, it has evolved into a new form of daigou represented by Binbin Weng, a former graduate student at the University of Chicago, who provides free health and nutrition assessments and consultations to China's middle class while also acting as a purchasing agent for American health products.
