Abstract History loves to repeat itself and trends recycle with small touches of newness like decorative sprinkles on a cookie. We’ve reached a point where 20-year-old pop culture “moments” are getting their second draft. As Y2K's trends take center stage, so does the harmful rhetoric that slighted fat, Black women then and now. This thesis aims to unpack the nuance of these media representations while examining how fatphobia and misogynoir bleed into other aspects of our lived experiences.
