Description

Photograph of an exterior view of Los Angeles County Court House to the southwest, 1898. It was built in 1888, demolished in 1933, and was located on the south side of Temple between Broadway and Spring Street, on Poundcake Hill. The square clocktower topped with a dome rises above the four-story sandstone building. It is perched on a hill surrounded by a stone wall enclosed grassy yard. Two young palm trees lead up to the building. Streetcar rails and electric lines criss-cross in the foreground. Other buildings are visible in the background, including a building at left with a sign reading, "Chas.W.Palm Co. Printing".

Title California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960

Description The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
