Description
Photograph of a covered sidewalk looking north along North Broadway from Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, ca.1892. Long blocks of adobe shop fronts line either side of the street, a covered sidewalk extending from the left dominating much of the frame. Pedestrians can be seen at the far end of the sidewalk making their way under the wooden overhang. What appears to be a barber's pole extends from an entrance approximately halfway down. A sign written directly on the adobe in the left foreground reads "Beef Steak, Spanish | ¢ | F. Moreno. Prop.", with the partial lettering above the door likely reading "[Restaura]nt. [En]trance.". A four-story high rise can be seen in the distance. The road is unpaved, and streetcar rails are visible embedded in it.
