Description
Photograph of an aerial view of the Essick Factory near downtown Los Angeles, 1910-1940. The various industrial buildings span four blocks, a road extending from the lower righthand corner to railroad tracks to the left of center. Surrounding the tracks, cleared ground is visible. This site was the parent to branch plants in Little Rock, Arkansas; Elizabeth, New Jersey; Santa Ana, California; with subsidiary T. L. Smith Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Lufkin, Texas, and the Sterling Machinery Company, formerly of Kansas City, Missouri.

Title
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
