The Broadway Central building is prominently visible in the left foreground of the street, while the Broadway Arcade Building is visible five buildings down among other highrises. Automobiles navigate the road at the center of the photograph. Legible signs include: "Entrance 420 Take Elevator", "Glick & Co.", "Show Cards Commercial Drawings Art Posters", "Clark's Dollar Store", "[E]verlasto Luggage Shop", "Youngs Shoes", "2 Big Features", "Underwood Typewriter Co.", "Herrick", "Clemens / The Home of 2 Pants Suits", "Hermann Hotel Supply Co.", "Sullivan's", "Birkel Music Co.", "Title Guarantee Bldg.", and "Walk". Additional information: the Broadway Theatre seen at left was located at 428 Broadway in the Broadway Central/Judson Building.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
