Description
Photograph of North side of Sunset Boulevard at Glendale Boulevard, ca.1935-1940. In the foreground, a paved street can be seen extending from left to right. On the opposite side of the street, two automobiles can be seen parked near a small lamppost. To the left, a large utility pole is visible beside a guardrail. In the background, a large apartment building can be seen with a small sign above its entrance reading: "Roberts Arms". A sign on the side of the building can also be seen reading: "New Management Summer Rates". To the right of the apartment building, two additional buildings are visible. The building to the immediate right has a sign which reads: "Confectioners Tobacco".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
