Description
Photograph of a postcard showing an exterior view of a "new" Dutch Colonial-style house in Oakland, California, ca.1904. At center, the two-story home is pictured turned slightly to the left, steps leading up to its brick porch while a long extension of the home stretches behind the gambrel roof. Handwritten transcription from back of postcard read: "Mr. E.C. Shipley, 744 East 8th St., Los Angeles, Cal.". Typed transcription read: "post card", "the address to be written on this side", "place 1-cent stamp here". Additional information: The house is still extant (as of August 2019). It's located at the southeast corner of 31st Street and West Street in Oakland, California. It was the home of one of E.C. Shipley's daughters. Originally numbered 709 at the 31st Street, the house is currently (August 2019) numbered 729 at the same street.
