Description
Photograph of a painting of a portrait of Don Antonio Maria Lugo, [s.d.]. The view is from the chest up. He is turned slightly to his left. His face is gaunt. He has a beak-like nose. He wears a scarf around his hair and a hat tilted forward on the top of his head. He is wearing a dark jacket over a light shirt with a collar and tie. The drawing is mounted on a "Kodak mask chart" covered in a fine numbered grid in a wooden frame.; Don Antonio Maria Lugo was born in 1783 at Mission San Antonia de Padua. He moved to Los Angeles in 1803 and was a grantee of San Antonio Rancho (29,513 acres) in 1809. He was the brother of Jose Ynacio Lugo of Santa Barbara. His father was Vincente Lugo. His wife was Margarita Ruiz.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
