Description
Photograph of a group of about 50 Walapai Indian children and 3 or 4 teachers in front of a school house, Hackbury, Arizona, ca.1905. They stand in four lines (from right to left) with the youngest boys in the front two lines (right), the young girls in the third line, and the older children in back (left). Most, if not all, of the children are barefoot. The teachers stand near the doorway and one of the windows of the one-story wooden school house with a corrugated metal roof. A wooden frame bell tower stands in front of the school (at right). A mountain is visible behind the school.
