Description
Photograph of workers putting in cement piers, Soledad Syphon, Los Angeles Aqueduct construction, [s.d.]. Nearly a dozen men wearing pants with suspenders and work shirts or overalls can be seen standing near a large piece of machinery to the right. One man stands on top of a platform at right connected to the machine. Six wall-like structures can be seen constructed behind the machine. A wheelbarrow, wooden planks, and piles of dirt can be seen near the men, while a small shrub-filled hill is visible in the background.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
