Description
Photograph of a woodsman posing in the Big Trees of Santa Cruz, ca.1900. An elderly man with a bushy beard and large ears rests his body on the stump of an enormous tree. The man leans on his left elbow while holding the handle of a long ax with his left hand. The head of the ax sits on the ground beneath him while his legs extend to the left. The stump of the tree is seems to still be connected to the trunk in the back while the trunk hangs over the man creating a living mouth that seems to swallow the man.
