Description

Photograph of an interior view of the propane compressor plant at the Triton oil refinery, ca.1940. Six rectangular metal machines are visible at center and descend into the background. A disk-shaped metal beam can be seen on top of every other machine, while pipes lead upwards from the machines towards the ceiling at left and right. Large square tiles cover the floor in the foreground, while another machine is visible in the right foreground. Metal beams can be seen across the ceiling. Photoprint reads: "Manufacturing Oleum Refinery. Triton Motor Oil".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
