Description
Photograph of a view of the S.S. President Hoover moored at Berth 155 in San Pedro Harbor, July 19, 1937. The large steamship is at left. It has a dark hull with a light superstructure. Several long booms extend over the deck of the ship, and many port holes are visible along the hull. A two-story cement building is visible at right, and an overhead gangplank goes from the ship to the mezzanine corridor of the transit shed. Several automobiles can be seen in the foreground, while piles of cargo sit next to the ship on the wharf.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
