Description
Photograph of painting of the Orizaba, a side wheel steamer of the Pacific Coast Steamship Company, later Pacific Mail Transportation Company, ca.1880-1890. At center, the side wheel streamer is seen moving through the water. Six small portholes can be seen on the lower hull near the bow on the left, while only three small portholes are visible next to the rudder on the right. Eighteen larger portholes are visible immediately beneath the deck of the ship, extending from the left to the center. At the ship's center along its side, a large wheel is seen churning the water below. Two large masts are visible on the ship's deck with flags hanging from the top of each. An American flag is also seen hanging from the stern of the ship. Near the center of the deck, a small smokestack and crane are visible between these two masts. Three large lifeboats are also visible along the main deck of the ship. In addition, several passengers are scattered on both ends of the ship. In the foreground, large waves are seen.
