Title Oil wells, broken trees on a beach, ca.1930

Description Photograph oil wells, broken trees on a beach, ca.1930. Piles of what appears to be palm tree debris sit along the smooth beach at center with a small avenue of water washing in from the left. Rocks lie in the sand to the left of a pile of debris in the foreground on the left with short grass growing in front of them. A short, rocky hill lies across the far edge of the sand with a tall derrick standing in the field at the top to the left of a short, dark building at center. A short forest stands behind the building and extends to the jagged mountains in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
