Description

Photograph of a birdseye view of the Jameson Oil Refinery, ca.1940. Cylindrical-shaped structures of varying sizes are visible throughout, while a long one-story building can be seen at top center. A tower is visible at center, while parallel roads can be seen running from bottom left towards the top right and intersect other various-shaped one-story buildings. Utility poles, automobiles, and trucks line the roads, while foliage can be seen on hillsides at the top right.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
