Description
Photograph of the grand opening of the Colton-San Bernardino-Redlands Railroad, 1898. A crowd of people line up in front of the train. The band, majority of the people at right, stands holding their instruments at ease. The locomotive, its fuel car and four passenger cars are within view. Passengers look out from the windows of the train. The number 13 is painted on the locomotive. Picture file card reads: "'Band out to celebrate. The arrival of the first train over a new railroad always received a community welcome. This photograph was taken near the town of Colton. Note: this photo mistakenly labeled as the arrival of either the Southern Pacific or the Santa Fe Railroad in Los Angeles."
