Description
Photograph of a winter scene in the Spanish Gardens at Casa Verdugo in Glendale, ca.1905. A line of beavertail cactus is in the foreground, running parallel to a dirt road. Beyond the road, a small girl is sitting in a patch of grass while several adults look on from a bench at the base of a large tree. Two early automobiles can be seen in the distance at center. The roof of the adobe can be seen above a line of bushes and trees in the background at left. In the distance at left, a mountain range is visible. Casa Verdugo was famous for its Spanish Cookery and was visited by thousands of tourists. It was located ten miles from Los Angeles on the Pacific Electric Railway.
