Description

Photograph of a nighttime view of the exterior of an unidentified oil refinery, [s.d.]. The refinery is at center and the main structure is made of metal beams. Many large pipes are visible, and two smokestacks can be seen at center. There are lights on a tall mast at center, and more lights can be seen near a staircase at right. The edge of a large rock or small hill is visible in the foreground at right.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
