Description

Photograph of an unidentified river surrounded by canyon walls, ca.1950. The dark, rippling river winds through the marshlands as the surface reflects the dark grass in the foreground and overhanging trees on the left bank further down the river. A small puddle of water lies in the grass on the left with short hillsides spotted with trees standing in the background behind it. A tall, leveled mountain side stands on the right with trees along its steep slope. Rows of hills stand in front of the snow-capped mountains in the distance.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
