Description
Photograph of an unidentified river winding through what appears to be a desert valley, ca.1950. Piles of dark boulders stand at along a cliff in the foreground with the river at center in the land below. The river is lined with plots of sand which are surrounded with jagged rock walls on either side. Further down, the river winds through smooth fields until it reaches the faint mountain side in the distance.

Title
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
