Description
Photograph of men constructing a bulwark o the Colorado River, ca.1903. Men in hats and overalls on the right shovel the rock debris that stands in piles along the right side of the metal tracks that ride over the wooden planks at center. Further down the tracks men spray the rocks with a hose while a ship labeled "Searchlight" approaches a second set of tracks on the far right. The water is smooth on the right beyond the developing bulwark and the water on the left reflects the pile of jagged rocks under the tracks. Dark trees line the far bank on the right while logs and cleared fields of dirt lie at the water's edge on the left with a faint mountain side in the background. Photoprint reads "Filling in Colorado Break. Cuny's Camp, Colorado River, California".
