Description

Photograph of two men standing beside a wooden triangular structure surrounded by derricks, 1904. A triangular structure made of several wooden planks stands at center, and a man facing left leans against it. Behind him stands another man with his arms on his hips. Across them stands the "central power unit of a jack line pumping 545 km." In the rightmost foreground, a wooden ladder leads up into what appears to be a tank. A plume of smoke spews from a smoke stack right of center. Wooden derricks dot the distance alongside the tops of trees.; Also, see CHS-1276.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
