Description

Photograph of a rear view of Pacoima Dam under construction, January 20, 1928. The tall concrete dam is wedged between two steep, rocky mountains. A tall metal crane is placing parts on top of the dam at center. A large body of water can be seen at the base of the dam in the foreground at right. Water is dripping down the face of the dam in several places.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
