Description

Photograph of a view of the Mulholland Dam, [s.d.]. The concrete dam can be seen at center. A large body of water can be seen behind the dam at right, while the water level appears much lower at left. Several buildings can be seen on the far side of the dam at right. The dam is anchored at a large hillside at left. The hillside is covered with assorted vegitation. A dirt road runs across the image from left to right in the foreground and intersects a road that runs along the top of the dam.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
