Description
Photograph of Rochester mines adjoining Bagdad mines in the Mojave Desert, [s.d.]. A shed sits next to a skeletal wooden structure in the dirt in the foreground with wood and bricks scattered on the right. An in complete set of tracks extends from piles of wood in the foreground on the right to a small dirt road the leads into the background. The road bends around a second shed at center a large, skeletal tower meets the road at the end. On the left of the tower sits a third shed while two large wooden structures sit on the right surrounded in scattered supplies. Another tower as well as another shed can be seen on a dirt mound in the distance where the mountain side surrounds them.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
