Description

Photograph of a woman marking numbers on white rubber pads, ca.1950. At center, a woman is visible applying a mechanical press to square pads of rubber. The woman is visible from the back to the left leaning with her elbows upon the table that contains the rubber pads. She appears to be writing "14" on the side of the pad that is being pushed down upon by the machine. To the right is a stack of nine similar pads with numbers on the sides, and to the left is a stack of ten pads without numbers written on them. The woman has dark wavy hair and is wearing a long sleeved ribbed shirt and bracelet.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
