Description

Photograph of the San Fernando Reservoir, [s.d.]. The rippling water reflects the sunlight as it washes up on the slopes, cement reservoir on the right. A cylindrical tower with wires extending from its top stands in the water in the foreground on the right while a similar tower stands in the background on the left. Smooth, grassy hills decorated with electrical poles can be seen on the far bank.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
