Description
Photograph of an oil well in the San Joaquin Valley, showing automobiles and with low hills visible in the distance, ca.1930. A tall oil well sits to the left of center, with a platform at its top and middle. A wire runs from its middle platform to the lower left of the image. At the base of the oil well sit several low wooden plank structures, utility poles, and three automobiles. A row of four chimneys or smokestacks and a low, cylindrical storage tank sit to the left of the well's base. A cloud of dust or steam hangs at the lower leftmost edge of the image. The foreground is filled by dirt or sand, while low hills of the same material are visible in the distance.
