Description
Photograph of a Signal Hill oil well gusher, at Long Beach, ca.1940. At center, a derrick bursts with oil, sprouting into the sky beside several other oilrigs. Built into its base in the foreground are several house-like structures, tanks and piping. More oilrigs can be seen in the distance, while the lines from utility poles stream through the foreground.
