Description
Photograph of a compound image showing a panoramic view of Asphalto and of a Sunset Oil field, ca.1915. Two panoramic images are shown: the top image shows the tiny village of Asphalto (one of several regions so named, later McKittrick) while the lower images shows oil derricks at the edge of a chasm. In the top image, a diffuse collection of small homes can be seen from a distance at right, at the edge of a hilly plain. The lower image shows three oil derricks surrounded by their maintenance sheds. The chasm is visible in the foreground. Largely illegible cursive text can be seen written to the left of the images. The top view looks northwest while the lower looks north.
