Photograph of aerial view of flood in Azusa, showing damage of San Gabriel Railroad Bridge over a river, California, 1938. In the background at center, a long railroad bridge consisting of two sets of tracks can be seen extending from left to right. The bridge crosses a large river flowing from the mid-right to the bottom-left of the image. Arched supports beneath the bridge can be seen holding sections of it above the water. Near the left bank of the river, a section of four arches has collapsed causing the bridge to sink to the water's level. To the far right of the bridge, sections of dirt and vegetation can be seen along the river. In the extreme background at left, lines of shrubs and vegetation can be seen. Photoprint reads: "This photograph is loaned to you. Please return to: Illustrator. L.A. City Planning Dept. Rm.361 F City Hall, Los Angeles, California". Compares to CHS-41466.

Title California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960

Description The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
