Description
Photograph of a panoramic view of Los Angeles, looking north from the Huntington Building, ca.1904. Visible in the cityscape are many commercial and a few residential buildings. Prominent buildings are the Los Angeles High School (in the distant center), Hotel Lexington (center right), and the Barker Bros Building (center left). Main Street, a prominent feature, is alive with pedestrian, horse carriage and streetcar traffic. Mountains can be seen beyond the distant hills.; The product labels of two billboards advertisements have been edited out. Still legible, they read: "Wilson Whiskey, that's all", "Owl Cigars". Other legible signs include: "Los Angeles Lithographic Co., labels, stationery, book binding, printing", "500, Lee Bros, jewelers, money brokers", "H. Raphael Co.", "furnished rooms", "5 cents, now 5 cents", "Phil[...] furniture", "Fraternal, Real Estate, Loans and Investment Co., [...]", "Hotel Lexington", "[...]rosslyn", "[...] Hardware C[o.]", "Barker Bros, furniture, carpets, draperies", "[...] d Bros, [c]lothiers, [...]5 -- S. Spring", "Geo J. Birkel [...] Steinwa[...], and other high grand pianos", "the Ang-el-us".
