Description
Photograph of a dozens of live snakes on the earthen floor of a Kiva, after the ceremony of washing for the Hopi Snake Dance Ceremony, Mishongnovi (Mashonguavi), Arizona, ca.1900. The adjacent stone wall has some markings on it. Some snakes are partway up the wall either coming out of a hole, or hanging from a rod or pole leaning against the wall. The snakes were washed in milk.
