Description
Photograph of a birdseye view of Philadelphia Street in Whittier taken from the State School, ca.1905. In the center of the picture is a large, square, white building topped by a large dome; aside from this, most of the buildings visible are small. On the right side of the picture, most of the buildings appear to be houses, while on the left side there is a pair of larger single story buildings, one belonging to the San Pedro Lumber Co. and the one behind it belonging to the Whittier Lumber and Mill Company. In the foreground is a lawn surrounded by a circular walkway, which is in turn encircled by a line of densely planted trees, including several short palm trees. There are more trees mixed in with the houses, and there are mountains visible in the distance.
