Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Southern Pacific Railroad Arcade Depot on the east end of Fifth Street, ca.1918. The large, three-story wooden railroad depot is at center. The wings of the building extend past the edges of the image, and there are three large arched doorways at center. A tall palm tree is growing near the middle of the building. Two streetcars are parked in front of the railroad building on tracks that intersect with more tracks in the foreground. Several horse-drawn vehicles are visible, as well as many pedestrians making their way along the sidewalks that border the streets. In addition to the depot, there are three other buildings visible : a three-story wooden building at left, a small single-story building at right and a dark-colored three-story building at right.; Legible signs include, from left to right, "[Boo]ks Magazines Stationery", "Smells of India Post Card", "Private Right of Way", "Shumard's Restaurant", "800", "Coca Cola", "Restaurant", and "Lunch Room".
