Description Photograph of a one-acre farm near El Monte, showing a large tree at left, August, 1927. A large tree shades most of the yard behind it from the left foreground. A wire fence extends in front of the farm just behind the tree. A driveway on the right leads to a garage where an automobile sits under a second tree. Many smaller trees and trimmed bushes decorate the front of the house at center. (Gay's Lion Farm?); The image was originally dated by August 1927. However, the car in the driveway appears to be an early 1940s Chevy model.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
