Description

Photograph of a view of the beach in Santa Monica from a covered walkway near Pico Boulevard, [s.d.]. The walkway is at center and consists of a brick path flanked by a colonnade of cylindrical columns supporting a roof of wooden beams. There are benches on both sides of the path, and a couple is seated on a bench at left, reading. A large grassy area is beyond the colonnade at right, and the ocean is visible further in the distance. In the background at center is a short pier with a very large three story building on it. The words "Café Nat Goodwin" are painted on the side of the building.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
