Photograph of an exterior view of the Southern Pacific Passenger Station on the San Pedro waterfront, ca.1913. The station is near the water at right and is a small rectangular building with a covered wrap-around porch. There are several people gathered on the porch and the nearby dock. The Southern Pacific tracks, as well as two railroad cars, are visible behind the building. A small boat is in the water at right, and the bow of a large ship is at extreme right. This image is an enlargement of CHS-12829.5.; Legible signs include, from left to right, "Restaurant", "Owl Cigar", "The Tourist", "Delicious and Refreshing Coca Cola Pure and Beautiful", "J. C. Redbach [?] Groceries", "J.A. Weldt & Co. Ship [?]", "Pacific Tel & Tel Co. Cable Crossing", "Rooms 25¢ Up", "Central Vermont 60847", "Southern Pacific Passenger Station", and "Hotel".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
