Description
Photograph of a water carnival scene on the Russian River in Healdsburg, [s.d.]. To the right a stage is visible with men and women sitting on benches surrounding it. Garlands are visible running from pole to pole, while more people are visible standing or walking around the stage area. Horses and buggies are visible throughout the near bank of the river, which runs from left to right across the center. A large bridge is visible to the right running from bank to bank. Rowboats are visible on the river near the far bank, while more people and trees are visible on the far bank as well. The women are visible wearing long light-colored dresses and hats, while the men wear dark suits and hats. Some women are visible holding umbrellas.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
